Quick answer: In the US, TikTok Shop requires regular orders to reach In Transit within 2 business days of Awaiting Shipment and to be delivered within 6 business days, or they risk auto cancellation after 5 business days. Keep Late Dispatch Rate at or below 4%, On Time Delivery Rate at or above 80%, seller fault cancellations at or below 2.5% and valid tracking at or above 95%. Customers get a 30 day return window by default, and sellers must respond to return requests within set deadlines.
Shipping rules on TikTok Shop are not guidelines. They are measured weekly, they feed directly into account health, and missing them can limit how many orders your shop is allowed to take.
This guide summarizes TikTok’s current US Fulfillment Policy and its cancellation, return and refund policy, both updated in September 2026, in plain language. It is part of our product and fulfillment series, which starts with our framework for finding TikTok Shop winning products.
The shipping deadlines
TikTok measures deadlines in business days, which exclude Saturdays, Sundays and US federal holidays. The clock starts when an order reaches Awaiting Shipment.
| Order type | Dispatch (In Transit) by | Auto cancel after | Deliver by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular | 2 business days | 5 business days | 6 business days |
| Made to order, backorder, custom handling | Handling time + 1 business day | Handling time + 4 business days | Handling time + 5 business days |
| Preorder | 2 business days after the preorder closes | 5 business days after close | 6 business days after close |

Handling time settings
Handling time is the time you need to prepare an order before it ships. According to TikTok’s Fulfillment Policy, the shop level default for regular orders is 1 to 2 business days. For specific products you can set longer handling times:
- Backorder: 3 to 15 business days
- Custom handling: 3 to 7 business days
- Made to order: 3 to 14 business days
- Preorder: 3 to 60 calendar days
TikTok’s shipping guide says you can set handling time manually in Fulfillment Settings or let TikTok adjust it automatically based on your performance history. Longer handling times protect your metrics, but they also push back the delivery date shoppers see, so use them only for products that truly need it.
What counts as dispatched
An order counts as dispatched when it is updated to In Transit, which happens when the carrier scans the package. Printing a label is not dispatch. TikTok’s shipping guide adds two practical warnings: only the carrier may scan packages, and printing labels too early can increase customer complaints and enforcement risk.
For Seller Shipping, where you use your own carrier, you must enter valid tracking within your handling time. TikTok allows one self correction of tracking details before the order is marked Delivered. After that, changes need a support ticket within 30 days of the order date.
Delivery options if you use Seller Shipping
Shops on Seller Shipping choose which delivery options to offer. TikTok’s Seller Shipping overview lists three: Express, with delivery within 3 business days; Standard, with a first delivery attempt within 6 business days, which is required and must cover all 48 contiguous states; and Free Economy, also within 6 business days, where the seller pays the shipping fee. Each option requires 95% of orders to be delivered on time to stay eligible.
The fulfillment metrics
Four metrics measure how well you ship. Each has a threshold in TikTok’s Fulfillment Policy.
| Metric | Requirement | What it measures | Applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Late Dispatch Rate (LDR) | At or below 4% recommended; enforcement may apply above 10% | Share of dispatched orders not updated to In Transit within the dispatch deadline | Seller fulfilled orders (FBT exempt) |
| On Time Delivery Rate (OTDR) | At or above 80% | Share of orders delivered by the deliver by date | Seller Shipping and TikTok Shipping (FBT exempt) |
| Seller Fault Cancellation Rate (SFCR) | At or below 2.5% | Share of orders canceled because of the seller, such as stockouts or pricing errors | All orders (creator sample orders excluded) |
| Valid Tracking Rate (VTR) | At or above 95% | Share of orders with accurate, verifiable tracking | Seller Shipping only |
TikTok’s OTDR page says the metric is shown on a 30 day basis in Account Health and on a 7 day basis in the Fulfillment Performance tab, and that OTDR is calculated weekly. For Upgraded TikTok Shipping and Collections by TikTok orders, from June 2026 a late delivery only counts against you if you also missed the dispatch deadline.
Fulfilled by TikTok orders are exempt from LDR, OTDR and VTR. That exemption is one reason many sellers move their highest volume products into FBT. We compare the options in FBT vs 3PL vs self fulfillment.
Shipping metrics slipping?
TokVendors runs order operations for TikTok Shops, from dispatch routines and carrier pickups to returns handling, so deadlines are met every day.
Penalties for late dispatch and missed deliveries
When metrics fall below the thresholds, TikTok’s policies list a range of enforcement actions. They include:
- Account Health Rating point deductions
- Limiting exposure of products with high negative feedback, or of shops with elevated fulfillment issues
- Order volume limits, up to suspending new orders
- Extended settlement periods, which slow down your payouts
- Listing removal, loss of selling access or account deactivation in serious cases
Failing to fulfill at all is treated more severely. The Fulfillment Policy says enforcement may apply if a shop’s seller fault, no delivery cancellation rate reaches 90% or more over 30 or more days, with temporary suspension or permanent deactivation possible.
According to TikTok’s OTDR page, an unappealed OTDR violation stays on the account record for 90 days. Each enforcement can be appealed twice: the first appeal within 30 days of the enforcement message, and a second within 15 days of the first appeal’s rejection. Appeals are limited to specific scenarios, such as a carrier marking an order as lost. For the wider picture of points and suspensions, see our guide to TikTok Shop account health.
How to bring a high late dispatch rate back down
- Find the bottleneck. Sort recent late orders by product, day of week and order source. Spikes after a creator video or a LIVE are the usual cause.
- Set a daily cutoff and keep it. Orders received before the cutoff ship the same business day, with no exceptions.
- Fix the handling time on slow products. If a product genuinely needs more preparation, set product level handling time instead of missing the standard deadline.
- Move volume. If the team cannot keep up, shift your fastest sellers to FBT or a 3PL before the rate reaches enforcement levels.
How returns work on TikTok Shop
The return process, step by step
- The customer submits a return and refund request in the app, with a reason and, often, photos.
- You review the request in Seller Center within the deadline for that request type, then approve, offer a partial refund or reject with evidence.
- Once approved, the customer returns the item, either through the platform’s drop off option or with shipping they arrange themselves.
- You receive and inspect the item, then confirm the refund or raise a dispute if the item is not the one you sent or is not in the agreed condition.
- The refund is issued to the customer, and the referral fee is adjusted for the refunded amount.
The return window
Under TikTok’s US Customer Order Cancellation, Return, and Refund Policy, customers have 30 calendar days from the date an order is marked Delivered to request a return and refund, unless a different window was shown at checkout. Select qualified sellers can set the window to 14 days (some categories only), 30, 45 or 90 days, with one window per category. TikTok may temporarily extend windows during holiday or promotional periods, with at least 7 days’ notice.
Nonreturnable categories
Some products cannot be returned for change of mind, including food, beverages, dietary supplements and other ingestible products; live plants, seeds and fresh flowers; trading cards and collectibles; chemicals and water testing products; virtual goods; and final sale items. Preowned items can be returned only if damaged, defective or significantly not as described. Customers can still request refunds on nonreturnable items for product issues or inaccurate listings.
Who pays for return shipping
The policy’s return cost table shows that when customers use the platform’s drop off method, the seller pays return shipping for every listed reason, including “no longer needed.” When customers arrange their own return shipping, they pay. If a return batch includes at least one seller fault item, the seller pays the return shipping fee. Factor return shipping into your margin, especially for products where fit, color or expectations drive returns.
Seller review deadlines
| Request type | Items $100 or less | Items over $100 |
|---|---|---|
| Return and refund request | 4 business days | 4 business days |
| Refund only request | 2 business days | 4 business days |
| Nonreturnable item request | 2 business days | 4 business days |
| Replacement without return | 1 business day | 1 business day |
If you do not respond in time, TikTok Shop may approve the request automatically. You can also automate approvals yourself: TikTok’s return settings let you auto approve returns, auto approve certain refund only requests and offer returnless refunds within rules you set.
Partial refunds, rejections and fees
- Partial refunds: you can offer one case by case, and the customer has 48 hours to accept. Automated partial refund rules apply to items priced $10 to $100, within set minimum and maximum amounts.
- Deductions after inspection: for buyer fault returns that arrive in nonsellable condition, the policy allows a 10% to 50% deduction after you receive and inspect the item.
- Rejections: you must keep your Invalid Seller Rejection Rate at or below 20%, so reject only with clear evidence.
- Refund administration fee: TikTok’s referral fee page says that when an order is refunded, TikTok keeps 20% of the referral fee as an administration fee, capped at $5 per SKU.
- Damaged, defective or not as described: customers can make claims within 90 calendar days of delivery.
Cancellations before shipment
Customers using Seller Shipping can cancel without approval only in the first hour after ordering. After that, cancellation requests come to you, and you have 24 hours to act before TikTok may approve them automatically. Orders you cancel yourself count toward your Seller Fault Cancellation Rate, and the customer must receive a full refund, generally within 5 calendar days.
The most common seller fault cancellations are stockouts and pricing mistakes. Keep inventory synced across channels and double check prices before promotions go live.
A daily shipping checklist
- Pull all Awaiting Shipment orders each morning and sort them by dispatch deadline.
- Pack and label orders in batches, and print labels only for orders you will hand over that day.
- Book carrier pickups or drop offs before the cutoff, and keep a photo of each batch for disputes.
- Check the Fulfillment Performance tab for any orders at risk of late dispatch.
- Review new return, refund and cancellation requests, and answer within the deadlines.
- Reconcile inventory so listings never sell stock you do not have.
Accurate listings prevent many “not as described” returns before they start. Our guide to TikTok Shop listing optimization covers images, attributes and package data that keep expectations realistic.

Frequently asked questions
How long do TikTok Shop sellers have to ship an order?
Under TikTok’s US Fulfillment Policy, regular orders must reach In Transit within 2 business days of Awaiting Shipment and be delivered within 6 business days. Business days exclude weekends and US federal holidays, and longer handling times can be set for made to order, backorder and preorder products.
What happens if I ship late on TikTok Shop?
Late orders raise your Late Dispatch Rate, which TikTok recommends keeping at or below 4%, with enforcement possible above 10%. Enforcement can include Account Health Rating point deductions, reduced product exposure and order volume limits, and orders not shipped within 5 business days can be canceled automatically.
Who pays for returns on TikTok Shop?
When a customer uses the platform’s drop off method, TikTok’s return policy table shows the seller paying return shipping for all listed reasons, including change of mind. If the customer arranges their own shipping, the customer pays. Check the current policy in Seller Center, since the details can change.
Can I change the return window on TikTok Shop?
Select qualified sellers can set a return window of 14 days for some categories, or 30, 45 or 90 days, with one window per category. If you do not choose one, the default is 30 calendar days from delivery, and TikTok may extend windows temporarily during holiday periods.
